Global Coal Production data are updated to 2015, according to BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2016.
Production and consumption charts, grouped by region, can be accessed via the links below:
Global Coal 1: A summary of Global Coal Production by region. The largest coal producer, by a distance, is China who’s production currently stands at just under 50% of total global production.
Global Coal 2: Global Coal Production against Consumption. In the BP Statistical Review, consumption figures are only given in million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) units. These figures were multiplied by a variable conversion factor for each year in order to convey the figures in tonnes. This conversion factor was determined by dividing Production (tonnes) by Production (Mtoe), and is therefore not fully accurate. In the regional charts, accessed via the links above, ‘the balance’ is calculated by subtracting consumption from production for the given year.
